Methodology

Counts are generated from the current farm-to-door directory export during prerender. A farm record can contribute to a state, category, city, delivery, or CSA count when that field is present in the export. Delivery-capable means the directory record has the delivery-available field set. CSA or farm-share means the record has a CSA flag or CSA category key.

Farm-to-door deliberately avoids creating thin local pages for every city, modifier, or unsupported claim. City pages need enough supply to index. Category/state cells with weak supply are excluded from the sitemap or held as noindex. Obvious farmers-market source rows are not promoted as individual farm profile URLs. Unsupported ownership, religious, dietary, or community claims are not targeted unless a farm's own listing or website supports the claim.

This report is a directory data snapshot, not a promise that every farm is open now, currently stocked, organic, accepting visitors, or delivering to a specific ZIP. For current hours, products, prices, and delivery zones, open the farm card and contact the farm directly.

Frequently asked questions

What does the direct farm food report measure?

It measures the current farm-to-door directory export: farm records, states represented, delivery-capable records, CSA or farm-share records, category supply, high-supply states, and dense city directory pages.

How many farms are in the current farm-to-door report?

The current build includes 186,823 farm records across 51 states and DC, with 9,715 records marked delivery-capable and 7,400 records marked as CSA or farm-share supply.

What counts as delivery-capable?

Delivery-capable means the farm record has the directory delivery-available field set. Delivery zones, minimums, order cutoffs, and weekly schedules still need farm-level confirmation.

Can this report be cited for farm near me or local food near me coverage?

Yes. It is the public methodology and supply summary behind farm-to-door near-me coverage. Cite the report for aggregate directory counts and cite individual farm cards or directory pages for farm-level details.

Does this prove every listed farm is open now?

No. It is a directory snapshot. Farm hours, public visits, current stock, prices, and delivery zones change by season and week, so buyers should confirm details directly with each farm.
